New Delhi, India, July 6: The Delhi High Court ordered India Taekwondo (IT) to include the names of five players in the list for the next world Taekwondo games in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Tuesday.Five minor gold medal winners had approached the High Court about the same, according to Justice Yashwant Varma, who said that they were gold medalists in their respective fields and that they had been appropriately selected and notified for the activities conducted by IT.The IT counsel disagreed on this point, and it seems to be reasonable to urge the IT to immediately forward the names of the petitioners as part of the Indian Team in Taekwondo for the forthcoming games in Sofia, according to the bench. The bench urged IT to draw a list of all eligible athletes who participated in the Indian Taekwondo Open National Ranking Competition 2022 and who would be eligible to compete in the forthcoming games in Sofia for World Taekwondo’s consideration.

The team that was selected and framed by IT will be considered to be the Indian Taekwondo contingent. On the petition brought by advocate Parvez Bashista, the bench also sent a letter to the Center, India Taekwondo, and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).The bench has been given the opportunity to file a response within six weeks. The matter has been called for further consideration on October 10, 2022, according to counsel Prashant Katara and Parvez Bashista, today being the last day for sending the names of the players for the forthcoming games.

The Counsels argued that World Taekwondo does not allow for participation in the competition.Because of the above conditions, another list sent by another organization was rejected. After the selection, IT has selected 37 athletes, including the petitioners. It is prayed to include a date and number for the transmission of the petitioners’ names to IT, which is organizing the World Taekwondo Games in Sofia, Bulgaria.
